Odd Napping Places

Ned discovered he likes morning tummy-time.  It is a good way to take his 30 minute nap.  I joined in with unusual napping places myself today.  I went to Kohl's to return a few Black Friday items and I closed my eyes in the minivan for just a minute and work up 30 minutes later.   Don't worry, the kids were with Nanny but when I woke up it was time to head home for the next feeding.  I was just that tired.  I used to do that when I'd go to work - I'd take a nap in the parking garage first thing in the morning if I had a late night the day before.

I took Penny to the doctor's this morning.  She has not been eating well for a few weeks.  She now weighs 10lbs 10 ounces (what a peanut - Ned weighs at least 2 lbs more than her).  She's gained about 20 ounces in 1 month which is okay but the doctor was concerned about how little she eats (not BF well, then refusing bottle, not eating more than 3 or 4 ounces of bottles).  We are going to monitor her for another week and then evaluate if she has "silent acid reflux".  Penny is a very happy baby and only cries when tired or hungry. She goes to sleep very easily and naps very well (about an hour in the AM, 2 hours after lunch, 30-40 mins late afternoon and only wakes up at 4 am or later).  She doesn't really spit up (Ned does) but she does cry when we are trying to "force" her (which you can't do when you BF) to try to eat.  She has regular BMs (every 1-2 days although today she had THREE!), lots of wet diapers.  She is alert and smiles and interacts with us and toys.

All this leads me to think that she doesn't have acid reflux but I do worry how little she eats - especially because they only eat 4 times during the day and 1 middle of the night wake-up.  She isn't interested in trying to take another feeding during the day.

Personally I won't worry about Penny - it seems she is happy and content. Why mess with it, if she is gaining and healthy? My DS2 is only about 16 lbs and he is nearly 7 mos.

I wouldn't worry about Penny's weight either--your Mom weighed only 18 pounds when she was a year old. love, Mimi

Hey, a nap is a nap is a nap, right? Take advantage when you can!

I agree...I wouldn't worry TOO much about Penny (easier said than done, right?) Kids have this knack of not actually starving themselves...and only eating when they're hungry. Maybe she just has a teeny tiny tummy.

Too funny that you fell to sleep in the van. :)

Too cute about the nap in the van. I do know what you mean about closing your eyes "for a minute" and then waking up half an hour later!!!

JMHO...If P is not fussy and sleeping well, plus not even eating all that much, that doesn't sound like reflux at all to me. Refluxy babies are generally miserable, especially with sleep because laying down makes it much worse. And they typically want to eat small amounts all the time, because while they are swallowing something down, it's keeping the acid down in their bellies. She's eating, sleeping, pooping, and gaining weight-- Sounds like a healthy baby to me.
