They Did It!

Ned and Penny slept through the night! Ned and Penny slept through the night! They went down at 7 pm and woke up around 6:20 am although Penny seemed like she had been up for a while before that (since Ned is on his tummy he lets you know when he is awake).

How did Mommy, Esq. do? Well, Husband came to bed around 3 am (he was working late on a presentation) and the cat puked at 5 am but I slept well except for those 2 wake ups. If we can get Husband and Scotia to sleep through the night I may manage a real 7 hr stretch of sleep before I go back to work.

It seems like Ned has been waking up the other nights at 3 or 4 am because of a "diaper project" he wants to work on in the middle of the night. That didn't happen last night based on this morning's diaper change. Despite the Cry It Out I've been doing for about a week I had actually planned on changing his diaper in the middle of the night if he woke up last night to see if my theory of why he was still waking up was correct. Let's hope the middle of the night "project management" doesn't come back. I do wonder though - if he is pooping at 3 or 4 am do I make him CIO (as I was doing) or change his diaper? Not really something he can "control" is it?

WAHOO WAHOO WAHOO!!!

How wonderful! I hope it continues from here on out.

As for the diaper, if it causes him to wake up and cry, I would change it. My kids get nasty diaper rash if I don't change a poopy diaper quickly enough, and I agree that it's not something he can control at all. There are always valid exceptions to CIO, and a full load is one of them, I think.

Hooray for good sleep!!!

That's excellent. Of course they are 5 months old so I am already feeling bad for myself with my 3 month maternity leave. Does this mean I'll have a minimum of 2 months with no sleep and having to work? Gah. I'm already annoyed!

Good going! I hope it continues. As for the poopy diaper, I would change it. Diaper rash is horrible to deal with.

I also agree to change the diaper if it causes him to wake up crying. If he were sleeping through the poop, I'd say you could leave it, just slather him with a thick coating of diaper cream before bed.

I also vote for change the diaper. I also vote for changing up the feeding schedule to move fiberous foods (pears, oatmeal, etc) to mornings and constipating foods to evening (rice cereal, bananas) to try to change the poop times. If possible.

Good points. Luckily (knock on wood) my kids have only once each had diaper rash even when I've left him in a poopy diaper overnight from time to time (if I can't smell it he is out of luck). I do serve rice cereal as the last feeding of the day (with a fruit) but I'm about to introduce breakfast (so 3 solid meals) and I was planning on fruit + oatmeal so sounds like that would be good per Laura.

YAY!!!!!!

Enjoy the better sleep. Don't you appreciate it much more than you used too. Oh, and we have puking cats here too. That's when Seth starts talking about the SPCA and how they take cats.

WOO HOOO!!!!

How'd they do last night?

Sounds like your kids have Super Bum to have only had diaper rash once. Nice :)
