Pushing Through It

Sometimes after a really stressful day when you learn that your daughter gained no weight in one month* and you spent the better part of an afternoon scouring labels at Whole Paycheck for high calorie soy-free, milk-free, nut-free foods that won't make her throw up because you are supposed to find someway to double her calories** and your husband is all quiet and worried it helps to have a reminder sent by your wonderful caregiver that she is having fun anyway.

*Static at 13 lbs, 4 ounces (although possibly longer (no idea), now at 25.9 inches).
**We are also going to be adding prescribed high calorie powder in her bottles and food.

Oh dear. The worry. I'm so sorry, that's so hard. I wish I had some solutions, but I obviously don't.

Still, what a delightful and happy girl she is. What a sweetie.

My BFF has been going through this weight gain craziness (falling on and off the charts since birth, currently on charts at 5% at 18 months) so I know the stress and worry. So sorry you have to go through this!

Did I ever write on my blog that we accidentally mixed the formula wrong for a couple of months and made it high calorie? Apparently you can make any formula high calorie by mixing it at different concentrations, just in case Penny doesn't like that one.

Lovely pic!

Sigh. Hang in there - you'll get to the bottom of this. You're doing everything right.

Okay I have a stupid question, but has Penny's thyroid levels been checked out? I just wondered if there is something other than a GI issue. She seems happy in the pictures. Not a screaming hungry baby. So could it be something else other than GI. Something triggering appetite?

That is a great pic - a baby can't get any happier than that right there!

I'm so sorry to hear that P isn't gaining weight. I can't even imagine how much you must worry about your sweet little girl. I really hope that you get some answers!

Good luck with this. I have heard people adding high calorie foods such as coconut milk/coconut cream and sunflower butter to help pack weight on their little ones. Also, if you can get your insurance to cover it, maybe you can get a visit to a nutritionist. She sure looks happy! She's just a petite princess!
